10 banks partner BIR on Land Use Charge

To ensure full compliance in the implementation of the Land Use Charge, over 10 commercial banks have antered partnership with the Ondo State Board of Internal Revenue.

Speaking at the sensitisation tours made to communities across the state, the chairman of the BIR, Mr. Tolu Adegbie disclosed that more banks are indicating their interest to partner the Board on the project.

“About 10 banks are now on board for the service on the Land Use Charge, mobile application of banks would be used for payment and we have tried to make it simple and cost effective”, Adegbie said.

He noted that the banks are partnering the state through the use of quick teller where the Land Use Charge can be paid through the internet.

According to him, an organisation called ‘Inter switch’  which is in the service of the state government would facilitate the quick teller to effect the internet transaction.

Explaining the process of payment,  Adegbie said the whole process is automated, declaring that anything handwritten is not original.

He said officials of the board will enumerate the buildings and then issue a bill which is expected to be paid within the stipulated time on the bill.

On every payment, Adegbie said a receipt will be issued which if not  collected, will be brought back by the officials who enumerated the house.

Adegbie, who explained that an amnesty had been granted for the payment said that payment varies from the high valued areas, medium and the low valued areas.

The high valued areas are to pay maximum of N10,000, medium areas to pay N5,000 while the low base areas are billed for 1,000 naira respectively.

All the communities visited applauded government’s initiatives and promised to cooperate in order to achieve the desired goal.

Among those visited were  Akure , Ondo, Ile Oluji, Ijebu Owo and Owo communities.
