Commemorating the 100 days of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu’s second term in office, his wife, Arabinrin Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, yesterday, flagged off a programme to celebrate the elders in four Local Government areas of the State.
Mrs Akeredolu while appreciating the 60 elders drawn from Akure South, Akure North, Ifedore and Idanre Local Governments doled out cash and assured them that same programme will be replicated in other Local Governments of the State.
Her words,”There is no gain saying your welfare has been a top priority for this present administration. This initiative is therefore a manifest expression of the love that this present government has for the senior citizens who represented a sacred class, that any responsible government should listen to and care for.
“Today’s event which is the flag off is to tell you that you are very important and that your welfare is paramount to this present administration. I can assure you that the same programme will also go round other Local Governments of the State. Be rest assured that the government has captured you in the scheme of things, as part of the most important segment of the State. “
Welcoming audience to the occasion, Chairman of the Planning Committee, Mrs Temitope Daniyan, explained that the programme which is set up to mark Governor Akeredolu’s 100 days in office for the second term is to appreciate the elderly and extend the love of the present administration to them.
She said, “This is a programme put together by the present administration to celebrate the elderly across the state to fulfil one of the promises of Governor Akeredolu’s to the elderly during his second term campaign.
“Similar programme will be replicated all over the 18 Local Government Areas of the State to show to the aged in the state that they are not forgotten.”
While educating the elderly on the importance of balance diet, Chief Medical Director, Mother and Child Hospital, Akure, Mrs Banke Oluwafemi, charged the elderly on regular medical check up and urged them on the need to take more fruits and vegetables to boost their immunities in order to guard against some diseases commonly associated with the old age.
One of the beneficiaries, Mr Abdulganiyu Oyeleso, thanked Mrs Akeredolu for her kind gesture which he described as one of its kind and assured her of the elderly continuous support in the State.
Another beneficiary, Mrs Kehinde Adejuyigbe, also lauded the Governor’s Wife for not forgetting the senior citizens has earlier promised. She pray that God will continue to bless her and grant her more wisdom and strength to continue her good work.
