10th Anniversary: Late Deji’s family donates to Alma mater

The family of the late Deji of Akure, Oba Adebiyi Adegboyega Adesida, Afunbiowo 11, has donated educational materials and food items to his alma mater, St Patrick’s RCM Primary School, Oke Aro, Akure and Ago Ireti leprosarium in commemoration of the 10th year remembrance anniversary of the monarch.

Wife of the late monarch, Yeyeoba (Dr) Mojisola Adebiyi-Adesida said the reason for the donation was to show love to them and let them know they are remembered.

She said the late monarch who was enthroned in 2010 and passed on in 2013 was an alumnus of St. Patrick’s RCM Primary School, Oke Aro, hence the reason for identifying with them.

According to her, “We cannot remember the late king without remembering where he started from, that’s why we are here.”

Also speaking, the daughter of the late monarch, who was also a regent, Princess (Dr) Adetutu Adebiyi- Ojei enjoined the pupils to use what were donated to them wisely in order to become a better person in the society.

While admonishing them to study hard, she said the educational materials given to them were aimed at improving their vocabularies.

The headmistress of the school, Mrs Awoniyi Folasade who thanked the Adesida dynasty for their donation, describing it as a kind gesture and also called on well-meaning alumni to come back and show love to their alma mater.

Also at Ago Ireti, the chairman of the camp, Pa Solomon Akinrungbe said the Adesidas of Afunbiowo traits are very important to them as their forefather gave them the land in order to have a home while others rejected them.

He said: “The king gave up the land in 1943, saying we are humans too and that we need to have a home and also a place to take care of our health. Some of us are dead because they couldn’t have a place of abode then. It is because we are together in one place that we receive help from both the whites and the blacks, even our children are now better people in the society.”

He prayed for the Adesida dynasty, adding that despite the economic challenges in the country, they still remember them.

The Yeyeoba Adesida said the family had always been coming to identify with them even when the king was alive and after his demise, the family did not forget them.
