Contrary to the decision of oppositions not to participate in the local government elections slated to hold in December 16, all the registered political parties in Ondo State have agreed to take part in the polls.
The State Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Mr. Olaoluwa Adesanya in an interview with The Hope disclosed that the oppositions which have earlier decided not to participate in the elections have rescinded their decision during a round table meeting held in Akure, the state capital to take part in the polls
Recall that 14 political parties signed a communique in March this year after a meeting not to participate in the election due to what they described as insensitivity of the state government to IPAC, the umbrella body of the political parties in the state.
It was gathered that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) that were not present at the meeting where the decision not to take part in the election was reached were said to have unanimously agreed to the decision not to participate in the elections.
Adesanya said the decision of oppositions was reached to participate in the forthcoming elections due to the interest of the which is paramount to them.
“Without the IPAC, there cannot be an election. For the positions not to be left vacuum and we agreed to participate in the elections.
“I have directed all parties’ chairmen in the state to forward their letters of interest to the State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC).
” As at today, more than 15 political parties have shown interest including those that signed the communique not to participate in the elections.”
He said the political parties are now working towards the timetable for the election in order to meet up with the electoral act.
