18-year old jailed for cocoa theft in Ondo

An 18-year old man, Bello Olamide, has been sentenced to one year and 18 months imprisonment by a Magistrates’ Court in Ondo, for stealing cocoa beans and unlawfully entry into another person’s farmland.
The Prosecutor, Supol Bernard Olagbayi, told the court that the incident occurred on October 19, 2024, at Assis Camp, along Ile-Oluji Road, within the Ondo Magisterial District.
Olamide was accused of forceful entry into a cocoa farmland belonging to one Monday John, where he caused a breach of peace, and stole four kilograms of cocoa beans valued at N44,000.
The charges against the convict included stealing and forcible entry, offenses said to contravene Sections 81 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Vol.1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
In his ruling, Magistrate O.A. Omofolarin, found Bello guilty based on the circumstantial evidence presented by the prosecution.
The court subsequently sentenced the convict to one year and 18 months imprisonment without an option of fine.
