A 19-year-old ex-convict, David Abayode, has been remanded by the Chief Magistrate Court in Ondo Town for allegedly entering the dwelling house of one Babagbemi Segun with the intent to commit a felony.
Abayode appeared before the court on a one-count charge concerning the incident, which the police prosecutor, Mr Akao Moremi, said occurred on September 22, 2024, at about 3 PM on Abayomi Street, Ayeyemi, Ondo.
The charge read: “That you, David Abayode, on September 22, 2024, at about 3 PM in Abayomi Street, Ayeyemi, Ondo, in the Ondo Magisterial District, did enter the dwelling house of one Babagbemi Segun with intent to commit a felony, thereby committing an offence contrary to and punishable under section 412 of the Criminal Code Cap 38 Volume 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.”
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge, and Mr Akao informed the court that he would call two witnesses to testify in the case, while the defence was unrepresented.
Presiding magistrate, Mrs Mosunmola Ikujuni, noted that the defendant is a habitual offender, having previously been arraigned for various offences. She pointed out that Abayode had been charged in this court on May 13, 2024, for theft and malicious damage.
Consequently, the magistrate denied the defendant bail and remanded him at the Segede Correctional Centre pending the final determination of the case. The court adjourned the matter to November 25, 2024, for hearing.
