2 dead as varsity students attack Fayemi wife’s convoy

Two unidentified protesters were said to have feared dead, while several others including Journalists sustained injuries yesterday when protesting students of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) attacked the convoy of the wife of Ekiti State Governor, Erelu Bisi Fayemi.

Similarly, a police patrol vehicle attached to Oye Divisional Police Station was set ablazed by the protesting students, while several vehicles in the convoy were smashed by the angry students.

The wife of the governor who was returning from a tour, rammed into the protesting students who were protesting against epileptic power supply in the community.

 The students were said to have engaged the security operatives in violent clashes and allegedly vandalized vehicles in the convoy of the Ekiti First lady.

The wife of the governor narrowly escaped from the scene by whisker, while her vehicle was smashed by the irate  students.

Reacting, the Police Public Relations Officer, Ekiti Command, DSP Caleb Ikechukwu confirmed the attack on the governor’s wife convoy and the death of the victims whose identities could not be ascertained as at the time of going to press.

Ikechukwu explained that the students protested in the morning and blocked the Ifaki-Ikole-Omuo highway and prevented free flow of vehicles.
