2 in court over unlawful entry, theft

Two men have been arraigned before an Akure Chief Magistrate Court, over alleged unlawful entry and stealing .

The duo; Jude Ajitu,25, and Monday Peter, 25, whose addresses were not provided, were charged on four counts bordering on conspiracy, stealing, and burglary.

The prosecution informed the court that the defendants and one other at large committed the offences on September 14, 2023, at about noon at Road H8, Housing Estate, Oba-Ile, Akure.

Inspector Folashade Adeyemi, holding the brief for the prosecutor, Mary Adebayo, informed the court that the defendants conspired with their accomplice to unlawfully break into the dwelling house of the complainant, one Mrs. Comfort Leasu with intent to steal.

Adeyemi alleged that the defendants stole a big Colgate toothpaste, six cups of hair relaxer,10 cups of hair cream, 10 bottles of body cream, 16 hair dye, 10 bottles of liquid Dettol and 50 bottles of hot drinks.

Other items stolen include, one carton of indomie, eight crates of eggs, bags of Semovita, four packs of Macaroni and 15 packs of Spaghetti, total valued at N318,000 belonging to the complainant.

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravened Sections 516A(1),411,412, and 390(9) of the Criminal Code Cap 37, Vol.1 Law of Ondo State 2006.

The prosecutor asked the court for an adjournment to enable her study the case file and present her witnesses.

She also urged the court to release some of the perishable stolen items recovered to the complainant.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges, while their counsel, C.O Famakin, urged the court to grant them bail on most liberal terms.

Chief Magistrate F.A. Aduroja, granted bail to the defendants in the sum of N250,000 each with two sureties in like sum.

He adjourned the case till October 23, 2023, for hearing.
