A Chieftain of the Pan Yoruba Socio-Cultural group, Afenifere, Chief Femi Aluko has suggested that two party system is the best for the country rather than the present  multi parties system.

Aluko, a former Commissioner for Information in Ondo State explained that the present 91 political parties approved by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to participate in the 2019 general elections are unnecessary for the country’s democracy.

Aluko in an interview with The Hope in Akure described two party system as a safe device for a country like Nigeria, stressing that for the country to be at peace, it should have political structure and reduce its political parties to two.

The former commissioner berated INEC for registering 91 political parties in the country, adding that the commission should be scolded for such development.

His words “Two party system is the best for people. With two parties, people will either belong to the right or left. This idea of sitting down in the house and forming a political party is pure nonsense.”

Aluko, who noted that the additional approval of political parties by INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmud Yakubu is  unnecessary and this has made the country a laughing stock in the world.

According to him, “He should have reasoned and advised the country on the disadvantages of multi party system”

He quoted the former Military Head of State, General Abdulsalam Abubakar , saying that “It is a mess to have 91 political parties in the country”

The Afenifere chieftain, however described the approval of two party system by the former Military President General Badamosi Babangida as one of his best achievements for the country.
