Two suspected kidnappers, Yusuf Adamu and Muhammodu Momoh, have been remanded in prison custody by an Akure Chief Magistrate’s Court sitting at Oke- Eda for allegedly kidnapping one Mathew Bamidele Akinsoto.
Adamu, 20, and Momoh, 20, were brought before the presiding magistrate, Mrs Charles Adeyanju, on two counts bordering on conspiracy and kidnapping .
According to the prosecution, the duo allegedly committed the offence in May 16, 2019 at about 7:30pm, along Irese road, Akure, in the Ondo State Magisterial District.
The prosecuting police Inspector, Uloh Goodluck , said the duo and others at large., while armed with guns, cutlasses and dangerous weapons, attacked and kidnapped the victim, Akinsoto.
Uloh added that Adamu and Momoh compelled the victim’s family against their will, by collecting the sum of N1,500,000, before he was released in May 19, 2019.
He said the offence contravened section 516 of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Volume 1 laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006 and also contradicted section 3(i) (ii) (b) of the Ondo State Anti -Kidnapping and Anti-Abduction Laws, 2010.
The pleas of the accused persons were not taken when the charge was read to them.
Uloh, therefore, prayed the court to remand the accused in prison custody pending the advice from the Director of Public Prosecution.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Charles Adeyanju, ordered the remand of the two accused persons in Olokuta prison custody pending the legal advice from the DPP’s office.
Adeyanju adjourned till October 16, 2019, for the outcome of the advice.
