2019 armed forces remembrance day gets committee

Ondo State government has inaugurated the 2019 armed forces remembrance day celebration state planning committee to ensure a befitting programme in January next year.
Inaugurating the committee on behalf of the state government, the Senior Special Assistant to the State governor on Women Affairs, Mrs Titi Adeyemi noted that the occasion is very important as it will herald other activities put in place for the celebration in the state.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr Alaba Adeyemi, the SSA informed that at the national level, Muhammadu Buhari had launched the Emblem Appeal on 31st of October, 2018.
To this end, she said it is imperative to kick-start the programme in the state so as to keep pace with others, particularly for the government to present a befitting programme in the state.
Mrs Adeyemi explained that the committee was put in place to plan and implement programmes and activities in respect of the celebration which would also be marked nationwide.
She stated further that the committee’s assignment will be much more demanding this year as the state government is expecting a well planned programme with new ideas injected into it to ensure a successful event.
She appreciated the state governor, for his concern for the vulnerable people at all times.
The SSA therefore enjoined the committee to explore all avenues to improve on the awareness of the general populace about the issues concerned and also on the purpose of the celebration which is partly to raise funds for the welfare of families of those left behind by the departed heroes.
She equally appealed to all representatives of local government, legion chairmen at the local Governments’ levels, Ministries, Departments and other parastatals which will be assigned with various tasks to take their responsibilities seriously and work as a team to make this year’s celebration a memorable one.
According to her, to achieve optimum success, it is very important that those at the grassroots are carried along, saying all local governments should ensure that their planning committee are equally inaugurated.
Speaking, the State Chairman of Nigeria legion, Col. Olubodun Apata (Rtd.) appealed to people to raise money and buy emblems, so as to be able to empower wives of the fallen heroes and also ensure a befitting celebration.
The committees held its first meeting immediately after the inauguration.
