The Nigeria Police have assured citizens of enabling environment on  2019 election days for them to exercise their franchise.

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone XI, comprising Oyo, Osun and Ondo states, Mr Aminchi Baraya, disclosed this at the opening of a two-day training tagged “Democratic policing and elections security management for officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force” held in Osogbo, Osun State capital on Monday.

Baraya assured the people of the area that police commands in the zone would ensure conducive environment for hitch-free polls.

He said officers and men in the zone had been trained to be neutral while on election duties.

The police boss enjoined policemen on election duties to liaise with officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) at the polling units regarding electoral procedures.

He assured Nigerians of the presence of police force that would perform its core duties of protecting voters and providing an enabling environment for credible polls.

Baraya said: “The major objective of this workshop is to prepare our men for the forthcoming general elections. The workshop is going to sensitise them on what is expected of them on election days and what is not.

“Basically, what the public expect from the police all the time is ensuring peace and security. For people to go about their business, there is need for peace.”

In his remarks, the Osun State Commissioner of Police, Mr Fimihan Adeoye, expressed hope of a good performance from the police during the forthcoming elections.
