What portion have we in David? Neither have inheritance in the son of Jesse, to your tents O Israel” I Kings 12:16.
The above Biblical damming and apt quote and scenario to assert Jewish self autonomy within the sore footed mundane Davidic Kingdom shall definitely play out in Southwest of Nigeria in the fast approaching presidential contest between the two acknowledged major political parties: The All Progressive Congress (APC) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Ironically, the two rival political outfits have tasted the forbidden fruit of governance and have critical stakeholders over the affairs of the nation.
The onus lies on the well discerning electorates going to the polls come February 21, 2019 to elect their president to pronounce the verdict of history either in favourable terms or otherwise on how the various political parties exert their influence on the people and the polity.
If not our unprepared youths in politics who are generally a bunch of lazy cowards abysmally fail to bestir their grits, muster enough political sinews to successfully confront the existing political oligarch, the present crops of political aspirants in their various ragtag inchoate and mushroom political parties have already lost the battle before proper electioneering eventually took off.
The nitty gritty is this, for sixteen years PDP was at the helm of affairs (1999-2007); due to its ultra conservative political outlook, it failed utterly to rejig and rejuvenate the economy to serve the best interests of the toiling Nigerians, especially the most articulate and relatively more advanced people i.e Yoruba speaking race of the south west.
Besides, PDP has a gangster design to unleash reign of violence, banality and corruption; and to depopulate the ranks of progressives in Yoruba land with a view to obliterating the cause of free education and industrialization doggedly pursued by Obafemi Awolowo and his lientenants in the governments of Western Nigeria.
PDP up till now does not deem it right to concede or honour south west with the exalted post of national chairman in spite of the critical role of the late Chief Bola Ige as a major dramatics personae that brought People’s Democratic Party (PDP) into reality in 1998.
Uncle Bola Ige SAN, was a frontine member of G 34, a pressure group that mounted a rigorous suicidal war against further military rule at its twilight during General Sanni Abacha’s iron fisted dictatorship.
G34 later metamorphosed into all embracing People’s Democratic Party (PDP) prior to its being hijacked by the cupidity of some ex-military top brass in politics.
Uncle Bola Ige, the most cerebral politician and a political dynamo in Yoruba politics, widely feared and highly respected largely due to his oratorical process, political wizardry and consummate political skills in Afenifere/AD political family.
It was the political intrigues, internal petty squabbles, lack of fellow feeling and rank indiscipline within the Afenifere /AD freely exploited by the big brother in the former president Olusegun Obasanjo led PDP administration that allegedly organized the political assassination of Uncle Bola Ige borne out of envy and soaring political profile.
Chief Ajibola Ige was murdered in cold blood in his bedroom, Bodija, Ibadan, Oyo State capital whilst serving as the nation’s Attorney-General and minister of justice under President Obasanjo who pretended to be Chief Bola Ige’s “friend”
The PDP led administration of President Olusegun Obasanjo clandestinely opened all loopholes for the murder without stirring up hornets’ nest from the public.
It was and is still the most heinous for Obasanjo/Atiku led administration to strike the shepherd and caused major stampede amongst the flock without reprieve till today.
President Olusegun Obasanjo/Atiku Abubakar joint ticket had murdered sleep in the whole murder saga as the regime could not claim ignorance of the misguided killing of uncle Bola Ige. They certainly have lots of explanations to make over the gruesome murder saga no matter the age the political murder took place.
Both Obasanjo/Atiku Abubakar, the intrinsic political, ecumenical worth of Uncle Bola Ige as the “Arole” Awolowo, the heir apparent of illustrious indomitable Obafemi Awolowo.
After the well orchestrated plot and dastardly cruel act to send Bola Ige to untimely grave, come the entry and reign of rabid political charlatants gallivanting about the place as anointed leaders of Yoruba nation. A huge joke indeed!
However, thanks the providence for the life of Asiwaju Alhmed Bola Tinubu who shines radiantly as a silverlining on the dark clouds.
Senator Bola Tinubu quickly organized himself, constituency Lagos and deployed every weapon in the arsenal; worked and he is still working assiduously as a progressive thinker and an acceptable leader of Yoruba to start from where Uncle Bola Ige had left off.
It was the handiwork of a misguided political god son of the former president, the erstwhile governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayo Fayose who turned to be the prodigal son of Ekiti politics; having being foisted on Ekiti State as governor.
Governor Ayo Fayose was dramatically impeached and later re-surfaced to complete his hatchet job of mal-administration and sanguinary politics as Ekiti State governor under the notorious presidency of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan.
It is galling that the southwest has never been considered for the position of National Chairman. The conspiracy to rob the southwest was masterminded by governor Fayose who was even a person non grata in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to start with.
It is very unfortunate and unthinkable to know that Ayo Fayose pronounced the candidature of professor Tunde Adeniran, a foundation and consistent member of PDP, former Ambassador to Western Germany as national chairmanship, a nullity.
It is equally sad commentary and unpardonable that Ayo Fayose, as governor of Ekiti State misapplied the scarce resources of the state to finance a dark horse in the party, Prince Secondus, from far away Niger Delta (Bayelsa) who eventually emerged as the current national chairmen of PDP.
Where do we i.e. Southwest go from here if we may ask? It is infra dig on the people of southwest to serve as literary hireling under the watch of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) led reactionary and venal administration whose policies and programmes from ab initio are inimical and detrimental to the best interests and welfare of Yoruba nation.
As leopard never changes spot, we are not unaware of the shenanigans of PDP’s forbear, the defunct National Party of Nigeria (NPN) especially its nefarious and obnoxious activities on Yoruba politics.
The dirty tactics and rodomontade of PDP to enthrone corruption and corrupt practices as a virtuous way of life shall fail and crumble to the dust.
It is appropriate at this crucial phase of electioneering to call upon the electorates to look beyond the present predicament which doubtless is a passing phase. For the unity and progress of our country, let us eschew the smearing campaign of tribal and religions hatred now in ascendancy relentlessly canvassed by PDP.
It is going to be suicidal, God forbids if by any default PDP is returned to continue ad infinitum regime of corruption, mayhem and impunity that could lead to imminent disintegration of the corporate existence of Nigeria.
The bane of our national economy is corruption. President Mohammadu is up to the task and more than hitherto, committed to fight the monster to a standstill by God’s grace, in his second term which shall be unique and unprecedented.
All hands must be on deck to support this holy and laudable crusade to move the nation forward. Our various state governors are enjoined to brace up in the arduous and selfless task of filling the existing vacancies in the civil and public service and embarking alongside private sector on aggressive mechanized farming to boost food production and less dependence on imported staple foods that kill our initiatives and local agro-allied industries before our very eyes.
In the interim, Southwest is urged to jealously guide and guard her political sovereignty as vigilance is the price of liberty. Since inception, PDP leadership has wreaked incalculable damage on the region. It’s 16years grand misrule coupled with the party’s traditional purblind and unservative unprogressive predilection for bad governance should not longer be condoned now and in the foreseeable future.
President Buhari/Yemi Osinbajo joint ticket shall surely redouble efforts to fine tune the machinery of governance for rich and positive dividends of democracy that will effectively percollate through all nooks and crannies of the country. For the president has reiterated his commitment not to make the mistake again of handing over government to the cabal of treasury looters.
Which is why, the electorates should massively reject PDP and its standard bearer, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar for alienating south western Nigeria for upwards of sixteen years of political administration.
We should fully utilize our God given electoral prowess to re-elect APC led Buhari/Osinbajo joint ticket to promote good government the lots of Yoruba nation in the next dispensation.
