Sunshine Stars FC yesterday defeated Osun United 5-4 via penalty shootout to advance to the round 32 of the 2022 AITEO Cup after both sides played a goalless draw.
Both sides displayed football artistry to the admiration of the spectators in the Cup competition decided at the Ikene Stadium, Ogun State.
Temitope Vincent and Leonard Ugochukwu 7th and 18th minute efforts were thwarted by the Osun United back line.
Sunshine Stars Goalkeeper, David Ariyo saved brilliantly prevent what could have been a own goal.
The first half ended in a barren draw, before both teams found a decider elusive in the regulation time.
Meanwhile, Sunshine Queens Akure failed to advance to the round of 16th after they went down 1-0 to Nigeria Professional Football League side Heartland Queens FC in the Women AITEO Cup clash between both sides.
The Akure Queens dominated both half of the encounter, but fell at the 12th minute to Heartland Queens FC goal.
Blessing Nkor was brought down inside the box for a penalty kick, but the Heartland Queens FC Goalkeeper, was well positioned to save from Omosuyi Ayomide penalty.
