Lone goal from substituted Adeleye Adewole was all Ijapo Ages Stars FC (IASFC) needed to triumph over Idanre United at the ongoing grassroots football competition tagged: “2023 Adu Cubana Unity Cup.”
The first half of the entertaining encounter played at Ijapo field ended in a barren draw, as both sides displayed football artistry to the admiration of the spectators at the sporting arena.
Adewole came on from the bench to score for Ijapo Ages Stars FC, having dribbled two opponent defenders before lashing home with his left leg to put his side ahead.
Idanre United efforts to get a leveller was well dealt with by the Ijapo Ages Stars FC goalkeeper, Ayomide Francis.
Both Ijapo Ages Stars FC and Idanre United goalkeepers were at their best with great saves in both half of the game.
In other games played, Benlab lost 0-1 to Fortune Rangers FC , while Might Sparrow also lost 1-2 to Ijapo Estate Eagles FA and Barracks Eagles FC played a goalless draw against M-MAX FC.
Benlab also played 2-2 draw against Waxing FC in the opening match of an entertaining encounter on Sunday.
Ijapo Ages Stars FC, now top group A with 10 points from four matches waiting for other team that will join them from the group to proceed to the next round of the competition.
The organizer, Ayokunle Oluwatope commended all teams for abiding by the rules of the competition, saying his committee will continue to improve as the competition progresses.
He said: “Going back to grassroots football development is the best way to re- activate the lost glory of the country in the round leather game.”
“We shall continue to contribute our quota to the development of grassroots football in Ondo State and in the country at large,” he said.
