2024 guber: Ondo NCWS advocates increased women representation

As the November 2024 gubernatorial election in Ondo State draws nearer, the state chapter of the National Council for Women Societies (NCWS) has called for increased women representation in governance.

This call was made during a lecture titled “Women and Election,” as part of activities marking the Association’s Summit, held at the International Culture and Event Centre (The DOME) in Akure.
State President of association, Odusola Oluseyi who organised the lecture, emphasized the importance of safeguarding voter cards, highlighting their critical role in ensuring a better future for women and their children.
She stressed that women, being the majority, have the power to secure victory for Lucky Aiyedatiwa in the upcoming election through their votes.

Oluseyi described voting as a spiritual act, where the outcome reflects one’s choice and urged women to let their votes speak for their interests.
She cautioned against being swayed by other political parties and encouraged women to remain steadfast in their support.
Commissioner for Women Affairs and Orientation, Mrs. Lola Fagbemi, in her welcome address, described Aiyedatiwa as a governor dedicated to the welfare of women in Ondo State.
She emphasized his prioritization of women’s issues and urged women to participate actively in the upcoming election by voting for him.
Fagbemi referred to women as spiritual pillars and encouraged prayer sessions for Aiyedatiwa’s victory.
Special Advisers Oluwawunmi Ilawole (Education), Olamide Falana (Gender), Bayo Aina (Women Mobilization), and Bosede Osamaye (Women Affairs) also expressed gratitude to the governor for promoting inclusiveness.

They called for more women to be appointed to key positions, noting that women constitute 49 percent of the state’s population and their contributions are invaluable.
They affirmed their unwavering support for Aiyedatiwa’s candidacy.
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa reiterated his administration’s commitment to prioritizing the inclusion and empowerment of women at all levels of government and society.
He praised the NCWS for its dedication to advancing women’s rights and overall societal welfare, acknowledging the progress women have made in various fields such as medicine, engineering, finance, law, aviation, and politics.
