2025 NWFL: Bayelsa Queens hold Naija Ratels, extend unbeaten streak

Bayelsa Queens on Wednesday played a goalless draw against Naija Ratels in Abuja to wrap up the regular 2025 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) season unbeaten, ahead of the Super Six.
Bayelsa Queens, Rivers Angels, Naija Ratels, Edo Queens, Remo Stars Ladies, and Nasarawa Amazons will all slug it out to determine the 2025 NWFL champions at the Super Six competition scheduled to be held in Ikenne, Ogun State, from May 8 to 17, 2025.
Naija Ratels began the encounter on a promising note, playing a purposeful game in the first half in search of a goal, but the Prosperity Girls stood firm in defence.
Bayelsa Queens could have won the game at the death, but a bicycle kick attempt by Mercy Omokwo from a cross on the right flank was miscued.
With the draw against Naija Ratels, the Prosperity Girls maintained their unbeaten record in the regular season, not losing a single game to opposition in Group B since the league began in January.
They now top the table with 34 points, becoming the only team to complete a top-flight campaign without a loss this season.
The result also allowed Bayelsa Queens to extend their unbeaten away record this season, winning three matches and drawing four.
“Today, I am a happy coach and the team is happy too, as we finished the regular season unbeaten.
This will definitely spur us on ahead of the Super Six,” said Bayelsa Queens Technical Adviser, Whyte Ogbonda.
“I am proud because I didn’t expect such a performance from Naija Ratels. We didn’t just defend well; we also played good football and created chances,” Coach Whyte added.
“We never let our heads drop. As for Naija Ratels, they are a good side and gave us a scare.
“Getting a draw here is truly a well-deserved point,” concluded Ogbonda.
