2025 President Federation Cup: Sunshine Queens reach last 16

Sunshine Queens on Saturday defeated Castmog Ladies 8–7 to advance to the Round of 16 in the 2025 President Federation Cup, played at Onikan Stadium, Lagos State.

The Ondo State-based female team triumphed over their Castmog counterparts via a penalty shootout after a goalless draw in regulation time.

The 2015 FA Cup champions piled pressure on their opponents in a bid to gain an early lead, but all their attempts were repelled by the Ogun State-based side.

Precious Edewor’s free kick was just inches over the bar in the 14th minute — a chance that could have put Sunshine Queens ahead.

Bunmi Adenuga could have broken the deadlock in the 82nd minute but was denied by the Castmog goalkeeper.

Sunshine Queens’ goalkeeper, Precious Aaron, also impressed by denying Castmog Ladies several goal-scoring opportunities.

Sunshine Queens captain, Ololade Akintunde, commended her teammates for the victory, saying it was not over yet.

Akintunde revealed that this was Sunshine Queens’ first outing since last year, adding that they would continue to improve as the competition progresses.

“This is our first game together as a new team. There is going to be great improvement in our next match.

“We thank our coaches and the management of the club for their support.

“We are going back immediately to start preparing for the task ahead,” she said.
