The Senate of League of Imams in Osogbo, also known as Alasaro of Osogbo, has urged all political parties in Osun State to zone their 2026 governorship tickets to Osogbo, the state capital.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Sheikh Ilyas Alawe, President of the Alasaro, said indigenes of Osogbo are united in their demand, stressing that no Osogbo indigene has ever been elected governor since Osun’s creation 34 years ago.
He noted that Osogbo has historically played a strategic role in determining governorship outcomes, and said it is time for the town to produce the next governor.
During a live interview on OSBC 104.5 FM, Sheikh Alawe called on residents to rally behind competent Osogbo indigenes across all political parties. Among aspirants is Kunle Rasheed Adegoke (SAN), an Osogbo-born lawyer seeking the APC governorship ticket.
Their position aligns with that of the Osogbo Elders Council, led by Prince Adeleke Ibiloye, and the Council of Baales, chaired by High Chief Jimoh Ibrahim, who have also openly backed the zoning of the 2026 governorship seat to Osogbo.
Prince Ibiloye emphasised that Osogbo has supported other towns’ candidates in the past and should now receive similar support.
Council of Baales ,chaired by High Chief Ibrahim reaffirmed the Baales’ commitment to the cause, calling for unity and collective action to achieve the goal.
Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has lifted the ban on political activities and scheduled the Osun State governorship election for Saturday, August 8, 2026.
