2031: Dr. Akahan advocates power shift to Benue South

Henry Iyorkase, Makurdi

Former governorship aspirant under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State, Dr. Dominics Akahan, has called for a power shift to the Benue South Senatorial District in 2031.

Speaking on Tuesday in Makurdi, Dr. Akahan emphasized the importance of fairness, advocating that governance be rotated to the southern senatorial district. He highlighted that this shift would benefit the state and ensure equity.

Dr. Akahan expressed concern that since the creation of Benue State, no Idoma person has ever been elected governor.

He urged political stakeholders to zone the governorship ticket to the south, stating that the Idoma people have credible candidates capable of earning the trust of the Tiv majority.

He advised the Idoma community to involve HRM Och’Idoma, Sir Elaigwu Odogbo John, in their advocacy efforts, emphasizing that his blessing and the nomination of a team leader would significantly strengthen their cause.

Dr. Akahan also stressed the importance of strategic planning, suggesting that the Idoma people allocate at least N10 million and gift items for consultations across the three senatorial districts.

He further recommended that the Idoma community consider conceding the senatorial seat to either Igede or Agatu as a way to strengthen their governorship aspirations.

Expressing optimism, Dr. Akahan stated that a peaceful and united approach could yield positive results. He urged stakeholders from other regions, including Kwande and Gwer, to support the cause, emphasizing that Benue State would continue to thrive regardless of who emerges as governor in 2031.

He reiterated that if the senatorial seat is shared with Igede and Agatu, the process of rotational governance among the state’s geographical zones could commence.
