A 25-year-old man, Joseph Abiola,has appeared before an Ondo Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly stealing N740,000 to play SportyBet game.

The defendant, who resides at Titilayo Street, Esso area,Ondo town, was arraigned on a count charge of stealing, but he pleaded not guilty to the charge.

According to the police prosecutor, Bernard Olagbayi, the defendant stole the sum of N740,000 being the sum he willingly and unlawfully use to play Sportybet from GTBank account operated by one Joseph Bosede and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 383 (2)(a) and punishable under Section 390 (6)(9) of the Criminal Code,Cap 37, Vol I Laws of the Ondo State, 2006.

“The defendant confessed to the court to have used the money to play Sportybet,” the prosecutor said.

The Magistrate, Mrs.F.A Aduroja, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500, 000 with one surety in like sum.

Aduroja ruled that the surety must be a responsible citizen and reside in the area with evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Ondo State Government.

She adjourned the case until June 5,2025 for hearing.
