26-year old remanded in prison for macheting ex-husband head

A Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Akure, on Monday ordered the remand of a young lady, Omotayo Aranla, in Ondo Correctional Facility for the alleged brutal machete attack on her ex-husband’s head, one Monday Boniface.
The 26-year old woman was brought before the court by the police in Ondo State on the charge of attempting to kill the victim.
The Police Prosecutor, Augustine Omhenimhen told the court that the defendant committed the offence around 8 p.m., on May 15, 2025, at the Okeluju area of Idoani, Ose Local Government area of the state.
According to Omhenimhen, during a dispute, the defendant attacked Boniface with a machete, and inflicted a deep cut on his head, leaving him in critical condition.
The defendant, a mother of one, claimed that Boniface had entered her home while she was working and forcibly dragged her to his residence with the intent to have sexual intercourse.
She stated that when he attempted to overpower her, she defended herself by attacking him with the machete.
The offence committed is punishable under Section 320 of Criminal Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.
The court did not take the defendant’s plea due to lack of jurisdiction.
The prosecutor prayed the court to remand the defendant to any correctional centre in the state pending advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
In her ruling, Chief Magistrate Olateju Odenusi-Fadeyi ordered the defendant to be remanded in the Female Correctional Centre, Ondo and ordered the police to duplicate the case file and send a copy to the office of the state DPP for legal advice.
She adjourned the matter till July 2, 2025 for mention.
