Three men; Abubakar Muhammed, Adamu Aruna and Musa Koya, have appeared before an Akure Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly kidnapping a farmer, Joseph Omololu.
The defendants who were arrested by men of the Western Nigeria State Security Agency codenamed “Amotekun,” were arraigned on two counts of conspiracy and kidnapping.
State counsel, O.F Akeredolu informed the court that the defendants committed the offences on March 13, 2023, around 5pm at Bolorunduro Ogbese, Akure North local government of Ondo State.
Akeredolu said the defendants conspired to kidnap their victim, Omololu, on his way to the farm.
The offences contravene Section 6 and 3(ii) of the Ondo State Anti-kidnapping and Anti-Abduction Law, 2020.
The plea of the defendent was not taken.
But the prosecutor, through a written application, urged the court to remand the defendant in the correctional custody, pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecutors (DPP).
The defence counsels urged the court to grant their clients bail in most liberal terms.
The presiding magistrate, Damilola Sekoni ordered that the defendants should be taken to the Olokuta Correctional centre.
He adjourned till April 26, when he would deliver his ruling on the remand application.
