3 remanded over threat to life, malicious damage

Three persons have been remanded by an Akure Chief Magistrate’s Court for allegedly threatening one Mathew Adegoke while they also maliciously damaged his properties worth N5 million.
The accused persons are; Akinlo Temidayo, 26, Akinlo Ilesanmi, 28 and Tega Oke, 20.
The Prosecutor, Inspector Taiwo Oniyere, said the defendants conspired to commit arson, malicious damage, threat to life on January 30, 2021 at about 8am, at Rail-Lead, Ode Ayé, Okitipupa in the Ondo State Magisterial district.
He added that they damaged Adegoke’s properties, which included; Television set, set of cushion chair, roofing sheets, asbestos, roofing sheet and other house hold appliances valued at five million naira, and thereafter set them fire.
According to him, Temidayo, Ilesanmi and Oke were found to be members of Ẹiyẹ secret cult confraternity and involved in similar prohibited activities.
The offences contravened Section 1 (i) of the Cultism, Secret Cult and Similar Activities (prohibited) Cap 39, Vol. 11, Law of Ondo State, 2006, and Sections 86, 443, 451and 516 of the Criminal Code CAP. 37, Vol I. Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
However, the accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charge slammed against them.
The defence counsel, Francis Balogun, made an oral application for the bail of his clients in most liberal term, promising to provide reliable sureties.
But the prosecutor vehemently opposed the application on grounds that granting them bail would either make them commit more crimes or disturb further investigation”
The presiding magistrate, Mr O. Labu, ordered the remand of the accused persons at any available Correctional Centre and that the case file should be forwarded to DPP and Ministry of Justice for legal advice.
He granted bail to the third accused person in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The magistrate adjourned the case till March 29, 2021 for ruling on bail.
