Three suspected cult members have been arraigned before an Akure Chief Magistrates’ Court, over the alleged murder of one Olatunbosun Roberts aka Oluomo.
The accused; Babajide Adeyeye, 42; Olawale oluokun, 27 and Olawale Orisadare are facing three charges of conspiracy, cultism and murder.
The prosecutor, Inspector Nelson Akintimehin informed the court that the defendants and others at large committed the offences on October 23, 2024, at about 2 am at Ondo town, in Ondo State.
According to the prosecutor, the defendants belonged to a secret cult confraternity known as the “AYE”.
Akintimehin alleged the trio conspired and caused the death of the deceased, Olatunbosun Robert, by shooting him with a gun.
He said the offences contravened Sections 516 and 319 of the Criminal Code Law and Section 1 of the Secret Cult and Similar Activities (Prohibition) Laws Ondo State, 2006.
The prosecutor, therefore, urged the court to remand the defendants in the correctional facility pending advice from the office of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The defendants’ pleas were not taken, while their counsel, Femi Adetoye, expressed his intention to respond to the prosecutor’s application.
Chief Magistrate Sunday Adedapo ordered the remand of the defendants at the Olokuta Correctional Centre, in Akure.
He adjourned the case to November 6, 2024, for ruling.
