3,000 benefit from FOWOSO programmes– First Lady

The wife of Ondo State Governor, Arabinrin Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu has revealed that no fewer than 3000 women across the State benefited from Forum of Wives of Ondo State Officials FOWOSO’s activities.
Mrs Akeredolu, initiator of the programme disclosed this during an interactive session with the media team from the office of the Special Assistant to President Buhari on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the Government House in Akure.
According her, 100 women from each of the 18 Local Government Areas of the State have been trained on skill acquisition, 50 who already acquired skills were given working tools as 900 undergraduates comprising both males and females in the State were given laptops to aid their learning.
She added that the programme was also used as an avenue to educate women on their health especially on brest cancer as well as treating women on other health related issues like high blood pressure, malaria, among others.
“FOWOSO empowerment programme had affected the lives of over 3000 women in the state positively. Women who form 50 per cent of our population can only be liberated from poverty through economic empowerment which is the message of FOWOSO. If the husband and wife contribute to the family financially, there will be peace at home. The economic empowerment of women is imperative for the economic development of a nation.”
“Aside the skill acquisition empowerment of FOWOSO, it has served as an avenue for breast cancer awareness campaign where more than 20,000 people have been reached. Everything we are doing tie together, BEMORE for instance was set up to unlock hidden potentials in girls especially in the area of Information Communication and Technology (ICT), to change the cultural belief that sciences are no go area for girls and since we started, our girls have been doing well in this regard.
She affirmed that Marvelous Jegede, one of the BEMORE girls installed Solar energy in her house and they now enjoy regular electricity. Likewise, the best cancer education has helped many women in the State to understand the need to check their breast monthly for any unusual change and report same to medical doctor immediately.”
