An Akure Magistrates’ Court has ordered the remand of a labourer, Oladipo Akintade in the Olokuta Custodial Centre for allegedly stabbing one Dole Akinrinola to death with a knife.

The police brought the 33-year old defendant before Magistrate R.I Adelakin on a one-count charge bordering on murder.

Akintade was alleged to have stabbed the 45-year old Akinrinola in his left rib, while they were quarreling, although the cause of the quarrel was not disclosed in court.

According to the police prosecutor, Folashade Adeyemi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on January 10, 2025 at Omifunfun within the Ondo State Magisterial District, around 6pm.

Adeyemi said the defendant confronted the deceased over an undisclosed issue, which led to a quarrel and in the process, the defendant allegedly used a knife to stab him.

The deceased was, however, rushed to the hospital, but was pronounced dead on arrival by a medical doctor on duty.

According to Adeyemi, the offence committed is contrary to Section 316 and punishable under Section 319of the Criminal Law of Ondo State, 2006.

The charge read, “That you, Oladipo Akintade, on January 10, 2025, at about 6:00pm, Omifunfun Camp n the Ondo Magisterial District, did unlawfully kill one Dole Akinrinola ‘m’ aged 45, by stabbing him with a knife on his left side rib, which resulted to his death.”

The plea of the defendant was not taken.

Adeyemi prayed the court to remand the defendant to any correctional centre in the state pending the outcome of legal advice from the office of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions, DPP.

Magistrate Adelakin, while granting the prosecutor’s request, remanded the defendant to the Olokuta Correctional Centre pending the outcome of the legal advice from the DPP.
