Palpable fear enveloped the residents of Akintola in Odigbo Local Government area of Ondo State after a 35-year old labourer, identified as Solomon, allegedly fell into a  well while hunting for a giant rat, popularly known as Okete.

The incident, which occurred over the weekend, caused chaos as residents rushed to the scene to rescue him.

Eyewitnesses who spoke with our correspondent recounted that the incident happened around 8 a.m.

According to one eyewitness, “He chased the giant rat to a certain point without realising it was a well.”

“He fell into the well and, because he lacked the strength to climb out, he had to be rescued by some people who saw him fall.

“Immediately after he was rescued, he was taken home. We thank God we didn’t lose him,” the eyewitness added.
