An Akure Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday ordered that a 41-year-old man, Ajayi Ologun, be remanded in a correctional facility for alleged murder.

Ologun, whose residential address was not provided, was arraigned on a two-count charge of conspiracy and murder.

The police prosecutor, Josephine Awana, told the court that Ologun and others at large conspired to commit the alleged offences.

Awana stated that Ologun unlawfully caused the death of one Iyanu Seyi by beating him with his fists and a stick.

She said the incident occurred on December 30, 2024, at about 7:50 p.m. at Owalusi Quarters, Iwaro Oka Akoko, Ondo State.

According to her, the offences committed are punishable under Sections 324 and 319 of the Criminal Law of Ondo State, 2006.

Due to the nature of the offence, the prosecutor prayed the court to remand the defendant in a correctional centre pending advice from the state Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

However, counsel for the defendant, Israel Tiwo, pleaded with the court to adjourn the matter to enable him to file a counter-affidavit to the prosecutor’s written application.

Chief Magistrate Olateji Odenusi-Fadeyi, who did not take the plea of the defendant, ordered his remand at the Olokuta Correctional Centre, Akure, pending the determination of the remand application.

The magistrate adjourned the case till March 3 for a hearing and possible ruling.
