4,500 security agents to monitor polls in Ondo

No fewer than 4,500 security men have been mobilised to ensure hitch free election tomorrow.

To this end, the command warned criminal elements and people of questionable characters to steer clear from polling units or be ready to face the consequences.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Femi Joseph, who spoke with The Hope said logistics such as; Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) ,various Tactical Squads and equipped patrol vehicles are already on ground for the election.

He disclosed that the Ondo State Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters in Alagbaka and all collation centres across the 18 local governments of the State have been fortified with adequate security.

“We have done all that is needed in terms of security for the election. We are maintaining our earlier security arrangement put in place before the postponement and we have also carefully studied the whole arrangement and I can tell you that we are ready to give Nigerians a violence free election.

“We are working with other sister security agencies to guarantee peaceful polls. We have appealed to all relevant stakeholders to comport themselves in a manner that would allow peace to reign supreme before, during and after the elections. Anybody who plans to forment trouble in the state if arrested, will have him or herself to be blamed”, he stated.

In a related development, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Ondo State has also assured of its readiness and commitment to ensuring peaceful polls.

The state Commandant of NSCDC, Mrs Christiana Abiakam maintained that the corps had already deployed enough manpower and logistics necessary to guarantee the safety of lives and property before, during and after the elections.

Abiakam, who spoke through the Public Relations Officer of the corp, Mr Samuel Oladapo enjoined electorates to come out and exercise their voting rights without any fear of molestation and intimidation, just as she warned trouble makers to have a rethink or be ready to face the full weight of the law.

She disclosed that the command in a bid to compliment the already established security arrangement in place has developed special intelligence units that would move round all nooks and crannies of the state to ensure a itch free election.
