484 Nigerian pilgrims safe after Makkah hotel fire — NAHCON confirms

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has confirmed that all 484 Nigerian pilgrims affected by a fire outbreak at their accommodation on Shari Mansur Street in Makkah are safe and accounted for.
The incident occurred at about 12 noon (KSA time) on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at the Imaratus Sanan Hotel, which was housing pilgrims from six Nigerian Private Tour Operator Companies.
In a statement signed by Fatima Usara, Assistant Director, Information and Publications Division, on behalf of the Chairman and CEO of NAHCON, Professor Abdullahi Usman, it was disclosed that immediate emergency response by the Saudi authorities and hotel management helped to contain the fire swiftly, preventing it from spreading throughout the building.
The statement read in part:
“The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) confirms that all 484 Nigerian pilgrims affected by the fire incident at their hotel on Shari Mansur Street in Makkah are safe and accounted for.”
Following the outbreak, NAHCON’s Chairman and CEO, Professor Abdullahi Usman, was joined on a site visit by the Commissioner of Policy, Personnel Management and Finance, Alhaji Aliu Abdulrazak, and the Deputy Makkah Coordinator, Director Alidu Shutti.
Their visit was to assess the situation on the ground and to prioritise the welfare of the affected pilgrims.
Expressing concern, Professor Usman immediately ordered the relocation of all affected pilgrims to new accommodation in Mina, ensuring their safety and comfort.
He commiserated with the pilgrims over the distress caused by the incident and assured that the Commission would provide all necessary support within its capacity to mitigate the impact of the fire.
“The Chairman thanked Almighty Allah that no life was lost in this unfortunate incident and promised that NAHCON would work closely with the affected Tour Operators to guarantee the relocation and welfare of the pilgrims,” the statement added.
Inspections of the newly arranged accommodation have been completed, and resettlement of the pilgrims is underway.
NAHCON also commended the prompt response of the Saudi emergency services and the cooperation of the hotel staff in managing the fire outbreak effectively.
The Commission promised to provide further updates on the matter as necessary.
