A 49-year old woman, Opeyemi Adebisi, has been brought before an Ore Chief Magistrate Court on multiple charges of assaulting a medical doctor and police officers.
Adebisi appeared before Senior Magistrate C.E. Ijeh, facing four counts related to the alleged assault. The prosecution claimed that the incidents occurred on March 31, 2025, around 8:30 PM in Ore, Ondo State.
Police prosecutor, Inspector Jimoh Amuda informed the court that the defendant unlawfully attacked Dr. Akinsuroju Ademola while he was performing his duties at the General Hospital in Ore, striking him in the face and causing injury.
Additionally, it was alleged that Adebisi assaulted Inspector Adewale Medinat, who was attempting to arrest her at the Ore Divisional headquarters.
The prosecution further accused Adebisi of behaving in a way that could lead to a breach of peace by resisting an arrest and causing a disturbance in a public place.
These actions reportedly contravene Sections 356, 197, and 249 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
Adebisi pleaded not guilty to all charges. The prosecutor requested an adjournment to review the case file and gather witnesses.
The defense counsel, Mr. V.A. Akinfe, did not oppose the prosecutor’s request but sought bail for the defendant under the most favorable conditions.
Senior Magistrate C.E. Ijeh granted bail to Adebisi in the sum of N200,000 and two sureties in like terms.
The case has been adjourned to April 30, 2025, for further hearing or a report on potential settlement.
