5 charged for armed robbery

Five men have been remanded by an Ondo Magistrates’ Court over alleged conspiracy and armed robbery.
The defendants are, Akinwande Oluwaseun, 24, Olaniyi Olawumi, 22, Owoseni Rotimi, 22, Ezekiel Olajide, 21,and Oladapo Ajayi, 30.
The five defendants committed the offence with others at large between the months of August and September 30,2021 at Topline filling station, Itanla area in Ondo.
The prosecutor, Inspector Gbenga Akinsulire, said the defendants robbed one Igwe Ruth of her hand bag containing N35,000 at about 5:20pm while they cut her left hand and right finger with knife while trying to rob her.
He said the defendants also robbed one Olabimi Ayomiposi of her N30,000 at igbo-oja market area at about 2:50pm, while the fifth defendant received one black colour TVS motorcycle with chassis No MD625NF9L1AR 3390 valued at N300,000, one Sonic motorcycle engine and one Sonic motorcycle tank.
Akinsulire said the defendants, while armed with dangerous weapons, including guns and knief were later arrested by the police.
The defendants are facing a four charge of armed robbery and conspiracy.
Contrary to Sections 6(a) and(b), 1(2)and (b), 2(1),1(1) of the Robbery and Fire Arms(Special Provision) Act Cap. R 11 Laws of the federation of Nigeria 2004.
The Magistrate, Mrs C.E Ijeh, ordered that the case file should be sent to the office of the Ondo State Director of Public Prosecutions DPP for advice, while the fifth defendant was granted bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in the like sum.
Ijeh adjourned the case till February 16, 2022 for mention.
