Five men have been dragged before a Chief Magistrate Court in Ondo town, for unlawful entry into the houses of three persons, where they stole various household items.
The police brought the defendants before the court for conspiracy, burglary and stealing.
They are; Kingsley Friday, 22; Victor Pius, 25; Muhamudu Buhari Haruna, 35; Festus Akinradewo, 23 and Ileola Temitope, 30.
The defendants were alleged to have conspired and entered into the dwelling houses of the complainants where they stole some items which include; one Infinix smart 6 Andriod phone valued at N62,000, one LG plasma TV with 2 remote control unit valued at N45,000, two Mp music player valued at N11,000, one infinix smart 6 phone valued at N70,000 and two smart bags worth N20,000.
The first defendant, Kingsley Friday, was also alleged to have stolen the following items : one traveling bag containing assorted clothes valued at N70,000, cash sum of N25,000, foodstuffs valued at N19,500, total valued at N114,500, property of one Toyin Rasheed.
They allegedly committed the offences at about 1:30pm and 2pm on October 17, 2023 at Methodist street, Onamila street and Ogooluwa street, Ondo in the Ondo Magisterial District.
The offences contravened Section 516, 411, 390(9) and 427.
The police prosecutor, Olagbayi Bernard, applied for a date to assemble the prosecution witnesses and study the case file.
Mr Hawkins Akinnugba, who appeared for the defence, urged the court to grant the defendants bail in most liberal terms.
The presiding Magistrate, Mrs Charity Adeyanju, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N500,000 each with one surety each in like sum.
She added that the sureties must be residents within the jurisdiction, while they must attach recent electricity bills bearing their names and means of identification.
Adeyanju adjourned the case till November 27, 2023 for hearing.
