The Ondo State Task Force on COVID-19 has arrested 50 young boys and girls in a hotel at the Isolo axis of Akure, the Ondo State capital, for violating the law against social gathering and for allegedly disturbing public peace.

The Hope Metro gathered that the suspects were apprehended for violating government’s order on social distancing and in a gathering of over twenty people.

However, over 30 other fun seekers, all youths, who clustered themselves in the hotel against government’s ban on social gathering in the state, were said to have scaled the fence to evade arrest.

The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on special Duties, Dr Doyin Odebowale, confirmed that the suspects were arrested following complaints from those living around the hotel who alleged that the youths were constituting nuisance to the neighbourhood.

He said the government’s Task Force only wanted to disperse the suspects, but eventually got them arrested as they refused to voluntarily vacate the place.
