Sustain Ajasin’s legacy, group urges Gov

My commitment to people’s welfare unwavering, Aiyedatiwa assures

Seven days to the governorship election in Ondo State, the pan-Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere and the traditional rulers in Akoko South-West Local Government Area of the state have thrown their weight behind the Governor and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, as the right and preferred candidate for the poll.

This came as  the Governor continued his campaign on Saturday in Akoko South-West Local Government Area, where he received royal blessings from traditional rulers in the area.

During the campaign, Bashorun Sehinde Arogbofa, a prominent Afenifere leader, also conveyed the pan-Yoruba socio-cultural group’s unwavering support for Aiyedatiwa’s candidacy, assuring him of Afenifere’s backing.

“The Afenifere stands firmly behind your mandate. You have shown promise and leadership, and we are confident in your ability to lead Ondo State to greater heights,” Arogbofa stressed.

He particularly urged the Governor to emulate the values of the late Chief Adekunle Ajasin, the first executive governor of Ondo State.

“Follow the legacy of Chief Ajasin, strive to make Ondo State great once again, as he once did,” the elder statesman stressed.

At the palace of the Olubaka of Okaland, Oba (Dr) Yusuf Adebori Adeleye addressed the gathering with a resounding endorsement of Governor Aiyedatiwa, expressing the united support of traditional rulers across the council area.

“The Council of Obas has decided, Governor Aiyedatiwa is our candidate. On behalf of all traditional rulers here, we stand together in support of your election, assured by your commitment to our communities,” the monarch averred.

Highlighting the Governor’s longstanding support for the traditional institution, Oba Adeleye added, “Since 1999, we have been advocating for five percent local government funds to traditional institutions in the state. Many promised, but it was Governor Aiyedatiwa who made it a reality. This step alone speaks volumes about your dedication to our welfare.”

Oba Adeleye further expressed gratitude for the Governor’s recognition of their community by appointing sons and daughters from Akoko South-West to key roles in his administration.

“We are deeply appreciative of the opportunities you’ve provided for our people, a testament to your regard for our council area,” the royal father said.

In his response, Governor Aiyedatiwa expressed heartfelt appreciation for the overwhelming support from the traditional rulers and the Afenifere leaders.

He pledged to uphold their trust, noting, “Your confidence in my administration strengthens my resolve to serve with even greater commitment. My vision for Ondo State aligns closely with the aspirations of our people, and I am dedicated to building a legacy of growth and unity.”

Governor Aiyedatiwa further assured the gathering of his commitment to championing the welfare of traditional institutions and communities across Ondo State.

“Our heritage and traditions are the backbone of our identity. I am fully committed to preserving them and ensuring they are woven into the progress we aspire to bring to every part of this great state,” he added.

During the event, Governor Aiyedatiwa officially pronounced Oba Stephen Oloruntele Ogunoye as the Olusi of Owalusi, further cementing his commitment to strengthening traditional institutions.

Speaking to party supporters in Oka Akoko, Aiyedatiwa pledged that, if elected, he would intensify his dedication to enhancing the well-being of all Ondo State residents.

He assured the crowd that his administration would prioritise policies aimed at improving healthcare, education, job opportunities, and infrastructure, striving to ensure that every citizen feels the impact of responsive and compassionate governance.

“My commitment to your welfare is unwavering, if given the chance to continue serving, I promise to work even harder to bring about the progress and support that our communities deserve.”

Prince Ademola Adetokunbo, the Senior Special Assistant to President Tinubu on Tourism, highlighted the range of developmental initiatives Governor Aiyedatiwa has championed across Ondo State, noting that these efforts have positively impacted various sectors, from infrastructure to local economy.

He appealed to the people of the council area to support Aiyedatiwa’s election bid, stressing the importance of continuity in sustaining these advancements.

“The progress you’ve witnessed in recent months is only the beginning; for these gains to be fully realized and for even greater opportunities to come to our communities, it is essential that you stand with Governor Aiyedatiwa and vote for continuity,” he said.
