70th anniversary of Aquinas College begins

A clinic and a multimillion naira gate built by old students of Aquinas College, Akure are highlights of projects to be commissioned as the college celebrates its 70th anniversary.
The National President of the old students (ACAOSA), Justice Adesuyi Olateru-Olagbegi made the disclosure at a press briefing yesterday
Olateru-Olagbegi stated that a solemn mass to usher in the anniversary will come up on Thursday at Mary Queen of Angels Catholic church where Rev. Fr. Jude Arogundade, Catholic Bishop of Ondo Diocese will officiate.
On the same day, Olateru-Olagbegi disclosed that the Anniversary College Gate sponsored by the 1976/1981 set would be inaugurated to mark the beginning of the anniversary.
A courtesy visit to the Ondo State Governor Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has also be slated for 2.00pm.
Friday would mark the end of the first segment of the anniversary when a mentoring talk for the current students of the college to help them shape their aspirations would hold.
According to the ACAOSA’s national president, an entrepreneur, Pastor Wale Akinyanmi, would be engaging the students in entrepreneurial talks.
Justice Olateru-Olagbegi said public address systems have been provided by one of the old students, Nnamdi Okoye, to make communication with the participants easy and adhere to the covid-19 protocol.
The second segment of the anniversary would come up in March when the Anniversary Sports Pavilion and other renovated classrooms would be inaugurated by the association.
A sports competition in which prominent schools including Oyemekun Grammar School, Christ’s School Ado-Ekiti, are expected as well as an interschool science competition which would be moderated by Prof. Francis Oluwole have been listed.
The event would be rounded up on March 7 with a thanksgiving service at Mary Queen of Angels.
Aquinas college was established on January 28,1951 and had produced three national merit award winners.
