72-yr old man remanded for job racketeering

By Adeboye Ado

A 72-year-old man, Adeyemi Kehinde, has been remanded in a correctional facility by an Iwaro Oka Magistrates’ Court for allegedly swindling a young man, Omoluabi Lawrence, under the guise of securing him a recruitment slot with a fictitious ‘USA EFCC’.

The septuagenarian, who was earlier remanded for a similar offence, was arraigned before Magistrate B.A. Ikusika on a two-count charge bordering on fraud and obtaining money under false pretence.

According to the police, Kehinde committed the offence on two occasions, the first being around 4:00 p.m. on February 17, 2025, at Akungba Akoko, within the jurisdiction of the Akungba Akoko Magisterial District.

The prosecutor, Inspector Boboye Olasunkanmi, who sought a brief adjournment, informed the court that the defendant had a history of committing similar offences.

The charges contravene Section 419 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

Counsel to the defendant, Prince T.M. Agbede, prayed the court to grant his client bail on liberal terms.

However, Magistrate Ikusika declined the bail application and ordered the remand of Kehinde in a custodial centre, adjourning the case till May 15, 2025.
