Four remanded over murder, robbery

A Chief Magistrate Court in Akure has ordered the remand of four men for robbery and killing of a man.

The defendants; Okon Blessing, 20; Ocha Famous,23; Gbenga Timothy, 22 and Japhet Gabriel, 26, were charged with three counts bordering on conspiracy, robbery and murder.

The prosecutor, Abdulateef Sulaiman told the court that the defendants committed the offences on October 28,2023, about 6:30am at Odunwolodeokuta camp, in Ondo town.

The defendants allegedly macheted and killed one Mr Sahabi Jadi, after robbing him of his money.

The charge read in part, “That you, Okon Blessing ‘m’, Ocha Famous ‘m’, Gbenga Timothy ‘m’,

Japhet Gabriel ‘m’ on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did kill one Sahabi Jadi ‘m’ by macheting him to death.”

According to the charge, the offences contravened Section 516,402 and 316 of the criminal code, cap. 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, Nigeria 2006.

The prosecutor urged the court to remand the defendants at the Olokuta correctional center pending an advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

However, lawyer to the defendants, A.Y. Aliyu, through a 15-paragraph affidavit, prayed the court to grant his clients bail in the most liberal terms.

Chief Magistrate N.T. Aladejana ordered the remand of the defendants at the correctional centre till DPP issues advice and adjourned the case till January 15,2024.
