8th NYG: Team Ondo grabs five medals

Team Ondo has won two Gold medals at the ongoing National Youth Games holding in Asaba , Delta State.

Gymnast, Kehinde Salami won team ondo her first gold medal in the pommel horse artistic gymnastics as Olumide Daniel Ibikunle added second Gold in the boys 100 meters race event.

 Salami won the gold medal with her excellent skills that caught the attention of the spectators at the indoor hall,while

Olumide led from start to finish beating Isaiah Idahosa , Edo, perfect Faye ,Bayelsa , Wisdom Lucky , Abia .

Other finalists include , Adeniji Muyideen ,Ogun , Francis Chimezie ,Abia , Michael Chisom Delta and Victor Ohworadjeke.

Olumide Daniel crossed the line in a time of 11:34 secs .

An excited Olumide after the race told journalists he will remain focused and work harder to achieve more in future .

” I’m proud I did it , I will keep working hard to be the best , I know I can achieve it “

The duo of Gymnasts, David Gabriel and Adeniyi Mayowa added silver and bronze to the Ondo State medals in the same event.

Ufewei Godson had earlier won bronze medal in 50 meters freestyle swimming event.

In a chat with newsmen, Ondo state Gymnastics coach Anthony Duyilemi praised the Gymnasts for the feat achieved.

He said: ” I’m so happy for this achievement, the athletes gave their best and they showed determination and that’s why they won”

General manager of the state sports Council Mr. Sunday Fagite commended the young Gymnasts for raising the flag of the state high at the national event.

 Ondo state athletes are expected to pick more medals in Badminton, Wrestling,beach Volleyball, and hockey .
