AAUA: Abayomi’s claim on VC selection process, suspension mischievous –Aboluwoye

A member of the Governing Council of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Prof. Olu Aboluwoye, has asked the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the institution’s council, Dr. Tunji Abayomi, to stop misleading the public over the suspension of the school’s vice-chancellor selection process.

He censored Abayomi for by-passing the already established laws governing the university’s vice-chancellor process in order to foist a non-competent fellow on the institution.

Aboluwoye, who was reacting to Abayomi’s claim that Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, suspended the VC’s selection process, told journalists on Sunday in Akure that Abayomi did not tell the whole truth.

According to him, the pro-chancellor’s disregard for the law establishing the university warranted the suspension of the VC’s selection process.

It will be recalled that Tunji Abayomi had said in an interview that it was Governor Akeredolu, not the Council that suspended the selection process.

But, Aboluwoye chided Abayomi for refusing to explain to members of the public what led to the suspension, claiming that Abayomi violated the university’s laws and regulations concerning the VC’s selection.

According to him, all applicants for the position of the vice-chancellor must interact with the university’s council members to speak on their mission and vision for the school, but alleged that Abayomi bypassed the process and dubiously attempted to impose his choice on the school.

He said: “Tunji Abayomi unilaterally aborted the selection process for the selection of the university’s vice-chancellor to create room for the imposition of his preferred applicant.

“The law establishing the university allows the selection committee to nominate two people, but the Council Chairman, Tunji Abayomi, unilaterally selected the two council members to be on the selection committee, whereas the council members must nominate.

“So, the suspension of the vice-chancellor’s selection process was consequent upon a protest letters by the trio of Prof. Olu Aboluwoye, Mr. Adewale Gbakinro and Arc Felix Ale, who pointed the governor’s attention to all the atrocities allegedly perpetrated by Tunji Abayomi at the school. We must thank the governor, who is also the Visitor to the school, for acting promptly to stop the mess Tunji Abayomi planned for the university.

“Tunji Abayomi should stop being mischievous; he should admit his weakness as someone without the required qualification to seek or serve in higher office.

Reacting,  Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Governing Council of the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Dr. Tunji Abayomi, insisted that it was the state governor Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu who wrote a letter suspending further process of appointing a new VC for the institution.

According to Abayomi, Governor Akeredolu ordered the suspension of the selection process based on the petition written by Aboluwoye and two others, including Ale and Gbakinro.

He described Prof. Aboluwoye’ allegation as false and baseless.
