AAUA Acting VC meets security chiefs

The Acting Vice Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Ondo State, Prof. Olugbenga Ige, has met with heads of security agencies in Akokoland as part of his ongoing consultations with stakeholders in the university and its environs.
Present at the meeting were the Commander, Iwaro-Oka Area of the Nigeria Police, ACP Funso Iluyemi; the DPO of Akungba Police Division, CSP Olaniyan Ajibola; the local Commander of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, ASC1 Olutola Akinbuwa; the representative of the Department of State Security (DSS), Mr. D. A. Adebanji; as well as the heads of the University’s internal security outfits.
Ige lauded the security outfits for their assistance and cooperation with the University over the years. He noted that the synergy between them and the Institution has sustained the peace on campus and safeguard the lives of students and staff who live in the immediate host communities and beyond.
He assured the security chiefs of the University’s continuous cooperation towards ensuring the safety of lives and property of both students and staff and other members of the University Community.
Speaking for the security heads, ACP Iluyemi advised the Management to caution both staff and students against living a flamboyant lifestyle. He said the pattern of crimes and house breaking in the area showed that the victims were targeted because they live ostentatiously.
The Area Commander said that most of the crimes, especially kidnappings, are committed by non-residents of the areas, but with the active connivance of residents who usually point outU high-valued targets for the criminals.
He added that effective communication and giving timely information to the Police would help to nip crimes in the bud. He further enjoined members of the University Community to reach out to the Police via 08024981535, while assuring them of confidentiality and prompt action.
