AAUA Don to deliver 38th inaugural lecture

A distinguished scholar in Industrial Sociology and Gender Relations, Professor Emmanuel Abiodun Fayankinnu, is set to deliver the 38th Inaugural Lecture of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State.
The event, according to the Chairman of the Ceremonies Committee and Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Professor Adebisi Daramola, has been slated for Tuesday, 29th April, 2025, at the University’s Multipurpose Hall.
The lecture is expected to commence by 2:00 p.m., with guests urged to be seated by 1:30 p.m.
Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Olugbenga Ige, will chair the session.
Titled “Still Powerless before Male Subordinates: Contra-Power Sexual Harassment of Women Leaders in the Workplace,” the lecture will be delivered by Professor Fayankinnu, a seasoned academic whose footprints in the field of Sociology continue to earn him local and global recognition.
Fayankinnu bagged his Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the defunct Ondo State University, Ado-Ekiti, in 1995.
He thereafter obtained his Master’s and Doctorate degrees in Industrial, Gender and Development Sociology from the University of Ibadan in 1999 and 2008, respectively.
His academic career took off in 2001 when he joined the Department of Sociology at Adekunle Ajasin University as an Assistant Lecturer.
By 2016, he had risen through the ranks to become a Professor.
Over the years, he has held several key administrative positions, including Head of Department, Dean of Faculty, and Director of Institutes and Centres within the university.
Between March 2022 and March 2024, he served as a Technical Aid Corps Volunteer at the Islamic University in Uganda.
He has also served as a visiting lecturer and external examiner at several institutions both within and outside Nigeria, including the University of Warsaw and the Polish Academy of Diplomacy in Poland, as well as Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Lagos State University (LASU), Afe Babalola University (ABUAD), and the University of Ibadan (UI).
Prof. Fayankinnu’s international exposure includes participation in conferences held across more than a dozen countries, such as Ghana, South Africa, Tunisia, Kenya, Finland and Poland.
He has authored chapters in eight edited volumes and published over 40 scholarly articles in reputable journals.
A mentor to many, he has supervised several postgraduate students, including four Ph.D. candidates.
The erudite scholar has received numerous awards and research grants, notably from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), as well as travel grants from international bodies like the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
He is a member of various professional bodies, including the Nigerian Anthropological and Sociological Association (NASA), the Social Science Academy of Nigeria (SSAN), the International Union of African Population Scholars, and the International Sociological Association (ISA), headquartered in Madrid, Spain.
