AAUA Mass Communication dept gets new executives

Astudent journalist, Ikulajolu Adesola alongside other candidates have emerged victorious in the recently conducted election of National Association of Mass Communication Students, Adekunle Ajasin University chapter (NAMACOS AAUA).

      The election, which was conducted last Thursday saw Ikulajolu Adesola won the presidential seat of the association while Kieribo Esther was elected as the Vice President.

Also, Akeju Samson was elected as the Social Director, Ohwofasa Dorcas came up trumps as the Welfare Director.

Idowu Ridwan is to represent the department at the Student Union Government Student Representative Council while Ogunsanmi Kolade won the Faculty SRC seat to represent the 200 level.

Those who were elected unopposed were Boluwaji Emmanuel Temitope as the General Secretary, Onikuro Tobiloba as the Assistant General Secretary, Harrison Ayoleyi as the Financial Secretary.

Also, Adeboye Mary Folayemi was elected as the Treasurer,Olubodun Samson as the Sport Director, Abdulwasiu Habeebullahi as the PRO. Aminu Samuel was elected as the departmental 200 level SRC while Ojo Timothy was elected unopposed as the SRC representative 100level.

Speaking with The Hope in an interview,  the President-elect Ikulajolu  disclosed that he had greater plans than setting material targets which is temporary.

He said “I have great interest in building the minds of students. I want to serve them with keen interest that will build their mind, capacity and widen their horizon about certain things”

He added : “I want to engage the students in activities that will build them morally, academically and socially which will prepare them for the future ahead.

“As communication students, there is a distinction attached to our names and we must live up to that standard. I want to discover, develop and deploy lots of talents and as well connect them” he added.

He further noted that the cabinet he will be working with will prove their worth.

He further urged other executives to “serve as examples to the students they are leading and never compromise for any reason”.

The opposing contestant who is also the current Vice president of the association, Omolola Omowumi congratulated the President-elect stating that her intention to contest will spur the female students in future ambitions.

She said “I think I was able to bring back the dead spirit in the female students because the only female president we ever had was Mrs Alero Benson (a graduate turned lecturer) and it has been a long time which was 2014.”

She reiterated her commitment and willingness to cooperate with the elected executives should her help and advice be needed. “My advice to them is to make sure they try and fulfill their promises if not all and they should not forget God who gave them the opportunity.

“I don’t think there’s any way I can influence the association but if my help is needed, I am always available.

However, the new executives will begin their tenure by 2019/2020 session.
