AAUA, NUJ plan PGD in Journalism

In its quest to provide platforms for journalists and graduates of Mass Communication to upgrade their academic qualifications, authorities of the Ondo State-owned Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), has directed  that the  process of offering Postgraduate programmes in Mass Communication-related courses  be worked out immediately.

To this effect, the University’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Igbekele Ajibefun has directed the School’s Department of Mass Communication to come up with a framework and necessary papers for the Management to officially approve the take-off of  Postgraduate Diploma, Master and PhD programmes in the field.

Ajibefun gave the directive in his office  while playing host to the new Executives of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ondo state council.

The Vice Chancellor described  the media as  a very important profession in  the society, hence the need for the institution to expedite action on the union’s request.

The State Chairman of NUJ, Comrade Adetona Aderoboye had earlier requested that the university should approve the commencement of Postgraduate  programmes in Mass Communication-related fields.

The NUJ Chairman also noted that no tertiary institution in the state  is   offering postgraduate courses in the field of journalism, hence the need for AAUA to give accelerated approval to the Postgraduate  programmes.

Aderoboye equally appealed to the  authority  to include the programmes among the courses that would be offered at the proposed campus at the Ondo State Public Service Training Institute (PSTI), Ilara-Mokin.

The NUJ leadership had last month visited the Management of PSTI where it was disclosed that a satellite campus of AAUA would soon be located at the institute for first degree courses and postgraduate programmes.
