AAUA ranks 18th among  Nigeria’s varsities

Following the recent ranking of universities in Nigeria by an international body, Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba -Akoko(AAUA) has moved from 31st to 18th position  out of the 104 universities rated in the country.

The Vice Chancellor of the institution (AAUA),  Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun,  stated this at the 8th convocation ceremony of the school in Akungba Akoko held recently.

Ajibefun  attributed the paradigm shift from the institution’s initial position of 28th to 18th to the consistent record of  excellent performances of its students in various national and international examinations and other contests.

Ajibefun also mentioned that three of the lecturers in the school among other members of staff who have distinguished themselves have won international awards  and  aiming that the University will continue to attract best brains so as to keep promoting academic excellence and scholarships.

According to the VC: “No fewer than 5, 252 students were awarded degrees of various categories and Diploma in the 2016/2017 academic session of the institution.

The VC stated that it is the wish of the university to keep and sustain the feat so that it can continue, with the cooperation of all its stakeholders, to achieve its dream of “building a 21st Century University, properly called”.

 He assured that the University will continue to sustain the integrity of its academic in line with its founding fathers’ vision 19 years ago.

Meanwhile, the Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, who is the Visitor to the institution, at the ceremony,  expressed delight over the recent higher position earned (18th) in the latest ranking by an international body, congratulating the council, staff and students on the feat.

Akeredolu who was represented by his deputy, Hon. Agboola Ajayi also appealed to indigenes of the state to join hands with government in building education, especially at the tertiary level.

“While as a government and proprietor of this University, we will continue to do our best to sustain the achievements of this University, we would like to appeal to all stakeholders to seek age-old and time-tested creative ways that have long been adopted by world-acclaimed universities to build our common heritage.

The founder and Convener of Arise foundation, Mrs. Siju Iluyomade was at the ceremony conferred with the honorary Doctorate degree of Law, which according to the VC was in recognition of her contributions to the development of the society.

Earlier, a graduand of Integrated Science Education, Komolafe Olorunwa who emerged the overall best student in the 2016/2017 academic session with CGPA of 4.74, won the VC cash prize of 150,000 while cash prizes of N100,000 were awarded to best graduating students of different faculties among other distinguished prizes.
