More facts emerged over the weekend in Ado-Ekiti, on how some of the abductors of the former Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Ekiti State University, Professor Olorunfemi Olaofe, conspired and killed his guard who masterminded the kidnap.
The former Ekiti State University official was kidnapped from his house located at the Federal Housing Estate, Ado-Ekiti, a few months ago, but he died while in the custody of the kidnappers, who eventually collected a ransom from his family.
Investigations by our correspondent revealed that the guard of the don, who masterminded his boss kidnap, was also reportedly killed by other members of the gang and buried in a shallow grave in a dense forest.
According to investigation by the Department of State Services (DSS), two of the suspects who were earlier arrested had made confessional statements.
The duo confessed that the guard, identified as Awesu, was killed, following a disagreement over the sharing formula for the ransom paid by the family of the late professor, which amounted to N7millon
It was gathered that during the sharing of the ransom, Professor Olaofe’s guard demanded four million naira of the seven million paid by the professor’s family.
The demand, according to them, was outrightly rejected by other members of the gang, who reportedly conspired and killed him.
Shortly after the confessional statements were made to security operatives, the guard’s body was exhumed on Thursday from the shallow grave where he had been buried.
The body was later brought to Ado-Ekiti and deposited in the morgue at Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado-Ekiti.
It took the DSS team and environmental officials several hours to convince the management of Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado-Ekiti, to accept the body.
