The absence of rain in Akoko area of Ondo State has brought mixed blessings to residents as the whole land is now enveloped by excessive cold.
Ordinarily there supposed to be heavy rain this time as it is the rainy period.
Consequently many people are complaining of the severe cold and finding ways to beat the situation.
Meanwhile some people are making brisk business out of the situation.
Sellers of tea and pap called Ogi in local parlance are making real money as the cold continues.
An Ogi seller, Mrs Eunice Ajayi, revealed that she was selling doubled her former sales as she now make an average of N5,000.00 daily as against her former sales of N1,500.00 a day.
She attributed the increase in her income to the need to shake off the cold by the people.
Mallam Abu Arikewuyo told The Hope that the cold is too much and he had to rely on the tea hawker for a cup of hot drink to shake off cold.
A muslim faithful, Sidikat Mohammed said it took courage before she could perform ablution with cold water and usually make do with hot pap for her household to beat the cold.
A senior health worker attached to Oyin Akoko Health Centre, Mrs Dupe Olowoyeye urged nursing mothers to always give warm food to their children.
Olowoyeye urged them to wear thick cloth for their kids so they will not catch cold.
Meanwhile the sellers of second hand clothes popularly known as Tokunbo are making brisk business as commercial motorcycle riders are rushing to buy pullovers to protect them from the severe cold.
