Achievers varsity urged to establish History Department

A call has gone to the authorities of  Achievers University, Owo to establish Department of History in the university and make the study of Owo history, culture and traditions a course to be studied in the institution.

The Ekon Odo Agbara of Owo Kingdom, Chief Jamiu Ekungba, made this call while receiving the management of the university who paid a condolence visit to the Olowo’s palace.

Ekungba described Owo culture and traditions as rich that the society will benefit from it if researched into.

Similarly, the Owo High Chief described Achievers University as a pride to Owo as it has fulfilled the dream of  the town to have a  university .

According to him, the late Olateru Olagbegi, III struggled to bring the then University of Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo University, but the powers that be then frustrated the efforts.

He therefore said the late Oba Folagbade supported the coming of Achievers University since it was an  answer to the dream of his father.

Ekungba said that the eleven-year-old tertiary institution has no doubt brought fame to Owo within the period of its establishment.

Earlier,  the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Ibiyemi  who lead other members of the team on the visit said the school will miss the monarch.

Prof Tunji Ibiyemi described the late monarch as an achiever who is well respected,  not only in Nigeria but internationally.

Speaking on the absence of the pro-chancellor of the school, Dr Bode Ayorinde who is also an indigene of Owo, the Communications Director for the University, Reverend Victoria Imolehin said the member representing Owo/Ose Federal Constituency in the lower chamber of the National Assembly will be presenting a tribute on the late Olowo during the Valedictory session  to be held for the late monarch by the National Assembly on Thursday.

Some of the members of the delegation include the Registrar,  Mrs Bosede Sofowora, Dean of the Post Graduate School. Professor Samuel Oyewole, , Dean,  Student Affairs, Dr Taiwo Adenegan and Deputy Registrar, Reverend Cannon Bayode Oladimeji among others.
