The lingering communal conflict between Ifon and Ilobu communities in Osun State has taken a more violent turn, spreading to Erin-Osun and leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.
Reports indicate that several houses have been set ablaze despite the presence of security operatives, as the crisis spirals further out of control. The protracted land dispute fueling the clashes has now escalated into a full-blown battle, with armed hoodlums unleashing mayhem on Erin-Osun residents, forcing many to flee for safety.
In response to the worsening situation, Governor Ademola Adeleke has extended the 24-hour curfew initially imposed on Ifon and Ilobu to include Erin-Osun.
The curfew, which takes immediate effect, is aimed at restoring order and preventing further bloodshed.
Security forces, including the Nigerian Army, Police, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, have been directed to enforce the curfew and intensify surveillance across the affected communities.
Governor Adeleke has called for calm, urging warring factions to sheathe their swords while warning that those found fomenting trouble will face the full wrath of the law.
A viral video circulating online captures the devastation, showing houses consumed by flames as panic-stricken residents scramble to salvage their belongings.
